Seattle Model’s Guild

I’ve been documenting talented siblings Sasha, Simon, and Sydney for several years now. But it was this photo of Sydney that got all three signed to the SMG, one of Seattle’s leading model-talent agencies.

Head shots packages are available now in the studio or on location. Make up services are also available. Contact me to book your sitting and have fresh head shots for your next round of auditions, interviews, and social media.

Open Studio – Saturday, April 11th

How many ways can you capture the sky? Cloud formations, jet wash, powerlines — they all float past the viewfinder, creating ever-changing images with the sky as their canvas.

Come see my collection of skypscapes at the Georgetown Second Saturday Artwalk. I’ll be showing iphone and large format sky images in my studio, #311. 6-9pm, Saturday April 11th.

Many of the artists of Equinox Studios will be open, and you can hop the Art Ride to Airport Way for even more open studios and Georgetown happenings

I’ll see you at the studio!

Art, Poetry, and Winter Celebrations

The Equinox Studios winter open house is always a feast of creativity and art. This year I was especially grateful to host several of the poets from the Poetry on Buses project. Raúl Sánchez even wrote a poem about his experience on the Flatbed Stage.

Here’s wishing you and yours a winter holiday full of beauty.

Poetry on Buses Open House, Dec 13th.

What does it take to put 215 poems on Rapid Ride busses, fill the Moore Theatre with poetry fans, and feature a new poem every day for a year on the Poetry on Buses website?

A pool of talented writers and a whole lot of shutter clicks!

From the first writing workshop to the vibrant launch party, documenting the Poetry on Buses project has been the highlight of my creative year.

That’s why I’m happy to announce a poetry reading and photography exhibit at the Equinox Studio Open House on December 13th, 6-10pm.

Come to studio 311 for readings by Chris Jarmick, Fredda Jaffe, Joy Brauning, and Raul Sanchez among others. Check out my new exhibit of poet portraits, and enter to win a portrait session with me for your 2015 social media profile pic.

The Very Open House is the biggest open studio of the year, with food trucks, music, and original art by the fine and heavy artists of Equinox Studios. Don’t miss it!

Into the Grey with Ann Hamilton

It’s always inspiring to work with the editorial team at Grey Magazine. This time I was photographing internationally recognized installation artist Ann Hamilton for her current exhibit, The Common Sense, at The Henry Art Gallery.

You too can have your picture taken in this ghostly environment now through April 26th. So head down to The Henry and strike a mysterious pose!

Get Your Words on a Bus!

The last few months I’ve been documenting workshops and writers for the Poetry on Buses campaign in Seattle. The neighborhood workshops are over, but anyone can submit a poem on the theme of “Home.”

It’s been wonderful to see new and experienced writers joining together to tell stories about what home means to them — both as long time locals and new arrivals.

“Some of us were born here. Some of us traveled thousands of miles to be here. No matter the distance, be it ocean or bus ride, the notion of home draws us near.” (from the Poetry on Buses website)

Check out some of my poet portraits and submit your own poem. New writers are welcome, and if your poem is chosen you may even get your portrait taken by me. Your words could travel around Seattle on Rapid Ride buses! Submission deadline: June 30th.

Event Photography: The power of the portable strobe.

Packing a gear bag for event requires you to be prepared for unexpected opportunities. I recently photographed an Art + Soul event at The Georgetown Art Attack – which included capturing the movement of hoop dancer Nicole Spiegel and the emotionality of singer Naomi Wachira.

When prepping for this client, I included a portable strobe in my gear bag. This allowed me to control the tricky lighting at the event venue, and add more depth and interest to these images.

Having the right gear let me capture both Nicole’s energy and motion, and Naomi’s more static but still emotionally rich performance. Images without the strobe would have been good, but with the strobe they are much richer and more dynamic.

The event host, Magpie Girl Gatherings, now has a set of photos that accurately convey the feeling of an Art + Soul events to use in social media campaigns as she promotes future shows.

Contact me for a consultation on capturing your upcoming private or corporate event. I’ll pack a gear bag that captures your gathering to it’s fullest.

Sneak Peek: Rachel Ancliffe Fashion Shoot

I had a great fashion shoot with designer Rachel Ancliffe and Seattle Model Guild’s Ilona Danilova, with hair and makeup stylist Luce Cousineau.

Strong collaborations between designer, model and stylist always makes for beautiful results. We did a number of shots with simple backgrounds as well as environmental shots. My studio space at Equinox Studios providing a variety of textures from industrial back grounds, to brick walls, to classic clean backdrops.

Here’s a sneak peek of just one of the images. The final images will be selected and released by the designer later this spring.

I would love to collaborate on your shoot.

Whitefish Hockey Tournament

I’ve been capturing the story behind these amateur hockey players for over ten years. I travel with the teams to Whitefish, Montana for  the annual 40 and Over Hockey Tournament and capture iconic moments,  like this time honored tradition of the post-game handshake. I consider it all training for covering the game when Seattle get’s it’s own NHL team.
